Seminoles Edge Tar Heels
April 4, 2003
Chapel Hill, N.C. - Despite a raucous crowd and an inspired effort in singles, North Carolina couldn't overcome Florida State, losing 4-3 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center today. #37 FSU (12-8, 5-1) jumped out early on the #41 Tar Heels (7-9, 0-4) by winning the doubles point. The Heels came out with more intensity in singles but still fell short. The Seminoles clinched the match at No.1 singles, with Trystan Meniane losing a hard-fought match to Mat Cloer in three sets. "I lose as much as everyone else," Meniane said after the match. "I just try to learn from it. "I wasn't as fresh with my legs as I wanted to be, and I struggled with my serve early." Nick Monroe won his fourth match in a row, defeating Romain Jurd at No. 2 singles. After dropping the second set, 6-7, Andy Metzler rebounded and won the third set 7-6. Senior Trystan Meniane is looking forward to Sunday's match against Virginia which begins at 1 pm at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. "We need to get a win, that's all," Meniane said. "We just need to take it one match at a time. We need to learn from this and put it behind us."
