Men's Tennis Sweeps Maryland 7-0

Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina opened conference play by sweeping Maryland 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels won all but one set in the six singles and three doubles contests. Freshman Nicholas Monroe captured his team leading 15th singles victory by a 6-1, 6-0 score over Maryland's Jon Neeter. Monroe also paired with senior David Cheatwood to defeat Maryland's Jon Murchison and Luan Nugyen 8-2 at number one doubles. Cheatwood improved his doubles record to 13-4 this year. North Carolina (5-5 overall, 1-0 in ACC) returns to action Sunday with an important ACC match against Virginia (5-2 overall, 0-1 in ACC). Match time is 1 p.m.
