Chapel Hill, NC - The #37 North Carolina men's tennis squad was upset Friday afternoon by the #52 South Florida Bulls by a 6-1 score.

Play began at 3:00 p.m. with the Bulls winning the doubles point. North Carolina's #3 tandem of Greg Archer and Aron Breziner were the first to fall losing 8-3 to South Florida's Babic/Escallon duo. Shortly after the loss at #3 doubles, the Heel's #1 team of Marcio Petrone and Nicholas Monroe were defeated by Antelo/Wetzel 8-6 to ensure the doubles point to the Bulls. Doubles action came to a close with a Tar Heel victory as the Heel's #2 combo of David Cheatwood and Trystan Meniane won in a tiebreak 9-8 (2).

Singles action began on a positive note for the Heels as freshman Nicholas Monroe quickly defeated the Bull's Boris Babic 6-2, 6-4 in the #3 singles slot. The win moved Monroe to 5-0 in singles play on the season and made him the only remaining Tar Heel player without a singles loss. The second completed match witnessed UNC sophomore Trystan Meniane fall in straight sets to Nadim Nasser 6-2, 6-4. South Florida's Jit Shah continued the Bull's success with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #6 singles. Shah defeated UNC senior Aron Breziner who filled in for the injured Chad Riley. Riley pulled out of competition just prior to the match.

The victory-clinching match for the Bull's came at #5 singles when Max Dockhorn locked up with UNC sophomore Greg Archer. Archer won the first set 6-2 before falling in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The loss was Archer's first dual match singles defeat.

After clinching the victory, the Bulls won the remaining two singles matches as well to finish with the 6-1 win. The final matches saw #1 singles player Marcio Petrone battle back from a one set deficit to lose in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to Martin Wetzel. Also in three sets, #2 singles player David Cheatwood fell to Paco Antelo 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The loss drops the Heels to 3-2 on the season. With the victory, the Bulls improve to 4-1.

The Tar Heels will have an immediate opportunity to bounce back when they face #37 Tulsa tomorrow in Chapel Hill. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be played indoors at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Cone-Kenfield center is located on highway 54 just behind the Friday Center.
