Tar Heels Shutout Furman, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- In their second dual match of the season, the University of North Carolina men's tennis team improved to 2-0 Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over Furman University. In singles action, Tripp Phillips defeated Furman's Lee Nickell at the #1 spot, and Assaf Drori beat James Cameron at #2. David Cheatwood was a winner at #3 over Drew Parker, and Trystan Meniane prevailed over Patrick Gaughan in a three-set match at #4. Chad Riley beat John Chesworth at #5, and Greg Archer defeated Jete O'Keeffe at the #6 spot. Tripp Phillips and Marcio Petrone combined at #1 doubles to defeat Cameron and Chesworth. David Cheatwood and Trystan Meniane suffered the team's only defeat, a 9-8 loss to Parker and Nickell at the #2 doubles spot. At the #3 spot, Greg Archer and Assaf Drori combined to defeat Jon Navarro and Seth Hauser. The Tar Heels will play two home matches at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center this weekend. The team will host the University of Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and Purdue in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
