Men's Tennis Preps For Dual Match Season
Jan. 22, 2001 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina men's tennis team began preparation for their upcoming dual match season this past weekend by participating in the 2001 ACC Indoor Championships. The Championships were held in Winston-Salem at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center. Seven teams from the ACC competed in the event including No. 4 Duke, No. 26 North Carolina, No. 31 Clemson, No. 35 Virginia, and No. 73 Georgia Tech. Nine Tar Heel's participated in the singles draw which began on Friday, January 19th. Final results include: FIRST ROUND

David Cheatwood (UNC) d. Jason Yeong (Ga. Tech) 7-6, 6-4 ROUND OF 16
Raul Munoz (WFU) d. David Cheatwood (UNC) 7-6 (8), 7-5 CONSOLATION SINGLES FIRST ROUND
Max Hilkey (UNC) d. Rick Phillip (WFU) 6-2, 7-6 (6) ROUND OF 16
Greg Archer (UNC) d. Steve Perkins (WFU) 6-1, 6-2 QUARTERFINALS Ryan Heinberg (DU) d. Greg Archer (UNC) 6-3, 6-2 The Tar Heels also participated in the doubles draw with four different doubles teams. Final results include: FIRST ROUND
Croker/Hunter (UVA) d. Cheatwood/Brownlow (UNC) 8-5 ROUND OF 16 Coirault/Menano (Ga. Tech) d. Petrone/Monroe (UNC) 8-6 Absent from the Tar Heels lineup during the Championships was sophomore Trystan Meniane who was battling a knee injury.
Up next for the Heels is the South Carolina Invitational. Play will begin on Friday and run through the weekend. The Invitational will be the Heel's last match experience before beginning their dual match season on February 1, when they will host Davidson.
