Two Men's Tennis Doubles Teams Advance In ACC Indoor Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Doubles action in the ACC Indoor Men’s Tennis Championships opened Friday and the two teams from the University of North Carolina have advanced to the quarterfinals.

Junior Chad Riley and senior Assaf Drori defeated Boward/Kilgore of NC State (8-6), and then beat Jackson/Cowman, also from NC State (8-3), to advance to the quarterfinals. Riley and Drori will face the No. 4 seed, Rueger/Cerenko of Duke, on Saturday.

Senior Tripp Phillips and sophomore Marcio Petrone won two close matches to reach the quarterfinals. The duo defeated Barth/Gojanovic of Clemson (9-7) and Yani/Jones of Duke (9-7) to advance. They face Munoz/Murray of Wake Forest, the No. 3 seed, on Saturday.

David Cheatwood and Greg Archer lost to Bere/Guzman of Wake Forest, 8-6, and Tyne Brownlow and Ben Elix lost a close match to Emendorfer/Cohn of Clemson, 9-8.

Singles action in the ACC Indoors begins Saturday.
