Carolina, Duke To Square Off In ACC Tourney

Nov. 12, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. - After playing an exciting regular season match, rivals North Carolina and Duke will meet once again in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship Wednesday at SAS Soccer Complex in Cary. The sixth-seeded Tar Heels (6-7-5, 3-5-0 ACC) and third-seeded Blue Devils (11-6-1, 4-3-1 ACC) will square off at 5:30 p.m. in the day's third quarterfinal match.

Carolina captured the regular season meeting, 1-0, on a goal by Ryan Adeleye in the 103rd minute. With Wednesday's meeting the Blue Devils will have a chance to win back one-half of the Carlyle Cup point claimed by the Tar Heels in the regular season meeting. UNC currently leads the all-sport competition between the two schools, 6-1.5.

Wednesday's match marks just the fifth meeting between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament. Duke holds a 1-2-1 edge and captured the ACC title on penalty kicks in last meeting in 2005, also at SAS.
