Tar Heels Welcome Wake Forest For Top-10 Clash

Oct. 31, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In a meeting of two of the nation's most prolific scoring offenses, No. 7 North Carolina will host No. 1 Wake Forest on Senior Night Saturday at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field. A webcast of the key Atlantic Coast Conference clash between the Tar Heels (11-4-1, 3-3-0 ACC) and Demon Deacons (15-0-1, 5-0-1 ACC) will be carried live and on-demand via ACC Select.

Prior to the start of the game, six North Carolina seniors - Ryan Adeleye, Michael Callahan, Ryan Johnson, Garry Lewis, Brian Shriver and Jacob Wescoe - will be honored for their outstanding Tar Heel careers. This group has been a part of 46 victories over the last four seasons.

Shriver continues to lead the ACC with 13 goals and is tied for the league lead with Wake's Marcus Tracy with 28 points. This pair has been a key reason that the Tar Heels and Demon Deacons have ranked among the nation's top scoring teams this season. Wake Forest is first with 56 goals, while Carolina is third with 38.

Paced by Tracy, the Demon Deacons have three players with more than 25 points this season. Eddie Ababio joins Shriver up front for the Tar Heels with 18 points.

Both teams have been stingy defensively, as Wake has allowed just 10 goals on the year, while UNC has yielded 19.

The Tar Heels are looking to snap a two-match losing skid, having fallen at Clemson and Campbell in their last two outings. The Deacons are unbeaten this season and have not lost in a span of 21 matches dating to last year's ACC final.

Carolina leads the all-time series by a 19-9-7 margin, but has not beaten Wake Forest since 2005 in Winston-Salem. The Tar Heels are just 1-6-2 against the Deacs since 2001.

Following Saturday's match, Carolina closes the regular season at No. 4 Maryland Nov. 7.
