Oct. 15, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Ryan Adeleye was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week Monday after leading his Tar Heels to a 1-0 upset over eighth-ranked Duke with the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute.

The victory marked North Carolina's first win over the Blue Devils since 2003 and was the Tar Heels' fifth shutout in 11 games.

Adeleye scored a rebound goal in the 103rd minute to even UNC's league record to 2-2-0. The junior was also an integral part of a back line that held the Blue Devils to just five shots and five corner kicks in the squad's lone action of the week. The Maplewood, N.J., native, who was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his performance against Duke, and the Tar Heel defense have yielded only eight goals on the season.

North Carolina returns to action Tuesday when the Tar Heels face Elon at 7 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium. The Tar Heels have won all 10 meetings with the Phoenix dating to 1980.
