Wescoe Takes ACC, National Honors

Sept. 2, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina senior goalkeeper Jacob Wescoe picked up Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week honors and was named to Soccer America's National Team of the Week Tuesday after leading No. 18 North Carolina to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend.

Wescoe, who was seeing his first career regular season action, compiled six saves and did not allow a goal in a pair of wins at the Carolina Nike Classic. After making one save in a 3-0 win over Florida International Friday, the North Carolina senior made a career-best five stops Sunday in the 1-0 overtime victory over VCU.

Wescoe was one of four Tar Heels named to the all-tournament team over the weekend, as was Wake Forest forward Marcus Tracy, who shared ACC accolades with Wescoe.

Wescoe and the Tar Heels are back in action this weekend against South Carolina and UCLA at Wake Forest's Deacon Fall Classic.
