  • CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Looking to build on a run to the College Cup title game last season, the North Carolina men's soccer team will face a challenging 2009 schedule when it returns to the pitch in August. The Tar Heels will play 11 games in front of their home crowd, including four exciting Atlantic Coast Conference matches.

After opening the regular season at home against UNC Asheville Sept. 1, UNC will host the annual Carolina Nike Classic Sept 4 and 6 at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels will welcome UNC Greensboro, Evansville and Northern Illinois with two matches set for each day of the event.

Carolina continues a six-game homestand to open the season with ACC matches versus NC State Sept. 12 and Duke Sept. 18. Virginia (Oct. 2) and Boston College (Oct. 17) also come to Fetzer in conference play.

The Tar Heels will take to the road in ACC action at Maryland Sept. 25, Wake Forest Oct. 9, Virginia Tech Oct. 24 and Clemson Nov. 6.

Non-conference matches with ETSU, Radford, Liberty, Campbell, Stetson and Elon round out the schedule.

Beginning Aug. 21, Carolina will host a trio of exhibition matches to tune up for the season against Georgetown, VCU and Old Dominion.
