May 5, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina men's soccer rising senior Michael Callahan will serve as the team's captain in 2008, while rising junior Bill Dworsky will serve as the squad's academic team captain, head coach Elmar Bolowich announced Monday.

Callahan, a midfielder from Cary, N.C, finished the 2007 season with nine points on two goals and five assists. He shared the team lead in assists and finished second in points. Callahan also was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. The economics major also picked up the 2007-08 Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award for men's soccer and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

Callahan has played in 59 games over the last three seasons, making 56 starts. He owns 22 career points on seven goals and eight assists.

North Carolina's leading scorer on the soccer field and a 4.0 student in the classroom, Dworsky was picked for the All-ACC Academic team for the second straight season. Earlier this year, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team and the Academic All-District III squad by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A native of Huntsville, Ala., Dworsky finished the season as Carolina's leading scorer with 17 points on six goals and five assists. He saw action in all 20 games for the Tar Heels and started 17. Dworsky had a pair of multi-goal games on the year with two each in wins over Akron and Clemson.

Dworsky has made 31 starts in 40 games over the last two seasons and has 24 points on eight goals and eight assists.
