CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Ali Curtis' goal in the 84th minute lifted No. 3 Duke over No. 20 North Carolina, 1-0, Saturday night at Fetzer Field. On the goal, Tar Heel goalkeeper Michael Ueltschey charged a loose ball in the box but could not control it as Curtis stole the ball away and drilled it into the right of the net for the game-winner. A crowd of 3,825, the largest crowd at a Carolina men's game since the 1990 renovation of Fetzer Field, was in attendance.

With the win, Duke improves to 6-0-2 on the season, 2-0-1 in the ACC. Carolina falls to 6-3-0, 1-2-0.

It was a physical game throughout where both teams had their chances to score. Carolina seemed to control the momentum for much of the first half of the contest, but about 10 minutes into the second half the Blue Devils began to dominate possession of the ball in the UNC half. Duke defender Donald McIntosh had two chances to score in the second stanza that went for naught. On the first, his shot hit the right post of the UNC goal and was cleared by a Tar Heel defender. On the second, Carolina senior tri-captain Joey DiSalvo recorded a back save to preserve the 0-0 tie at the time.

Duke outshot Carolina, 5-3, in the second half and 13-9 for the game.

Carolina returns to action Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Winthrop at Fetzer Field.
