Junior - 2008 Season
One of just two players to start all 24 games for the Tar Heels • Started in the midfield in the final six games after starting the first 18 games at outside back • Assisted on four goals, which tied for fifth on the team • Earned a spot on the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team after a stellar postseason • Set up the game-winner against No. 1 Wake Forest in the Dec. 12 national semifinal after making a run up the right side and finding Brian Shriver in the box in just the fourth minute of action • Also assisted on Shriver's game winner at No. 24 Duke Oct. 10 • Additionally, picked up assists against East Tennessee State and William & Mary • Took nine shots • Ranked third among all Olympic sports male athletes in the SuperRam competition, which measures overall performance by the UNC strength and conditioning staff.
Sophomore - 2007 Season
Played in 18 games and made 17 starts in the midfield and at outside back • Finished with eight points on three goals and two assists • Ranked third on the team in scoring • Scored lone goal in the 18th minute in a 1-1 tie against Bradley Sept. 7 • Converted a penalty kick in 43rd minute in a 3-2 victory over Clemson Oct. 28 • Also scored in the 7-1 win over Liberty Oct. 2 and added an assist for a season-best three points • Added an assist against Virginia Tech • Took 30 shots on the season • Put 13 shots on goal.
Freshman - 2006 Season
Made eight starts in the midfield and saw action in 19 matches • Tallied six points on two goals and two assists • Buried a strike from just outside 18 yards in the 68th minute in the Sept. 1 win over No. 20 Ohio State for his first career goal • Also scored in the Oct. 3 tie with High Point • Assisted on Eddie Ababio's game-winner versus No. 1 Virginia Sept. 22 • First career assist game on a Michael Callahan goal against Quinnipiac Sept. 12 • Totaled 20 shots on the season.
Prep - Verdigris High School
Three-time all-conference choice and four-time team MVP at Verdigris High School • Tallied career totals of 90 goals and 40 assists and was a two-time team captain • Participated in the 2005 adidas Elite Soccer Program • Played club soccer with the Tulsa Nationals and served as team captain for eight seasons • Won three state titles • Also played three seasons with the state ODP team and was a member of the regional ODP pool • Also was an all-state selection in basketball and played football for two seasons • Honor roll student and winner of the President's Education Award and Physical Science Award for Academic Excellence • Student council treasurer.

Zachary Robert Loyd is the son of Alan and Kathleen Loyd • Born July 18, 1987, in Tulsa, Okla. • Has three brothers • Majoring in exercise and sport science at Carolina and plans a career as a teacher and coach • Two brothers play soccer at Benedictine College.
