Walterhoefer Leads Cadre Of Heels On Preseason All-America Team

BALTIMORE, MD. - Shane Walterhoefer leads a contingent of Tar Heel men's lacrosse players named Monday to the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook 2009 Preseason All-America Team for Division I men's lacrosse.

The wealth on the team was spread around to many different schools. The All-Americas were chosen by a national vote of the 50 plus NCAA Division I coaches nationwide.

Cornell leads the way with three first-team selections, while Virginia and Syracuse have two selections apiece. Colgate, Ohio State, Bryant, Duke, North Carolina, Navy, Loyola, Johns Hopkins and Brown each got one name on the top list in the land. Inside Lacrosse also selects second and third teams as well as an honorable mention list.

Walterhoefer, a senior from Ellicott City, Md. was named to the first team as the face-off middie. Senior Ben Hunt of Arnold, Md. was one of four midfielders named to the second team.

Honorable mention choices include senior attackman Bart Wagner of Glen Arm, Md., sophomore defenseman Ryan Flanagan of West Islip, N.Y., and senior goalkeeper Grant Zimmerman of Cockeysville, Md.
