Oct. 26, 2009

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina's men's lacrosse team will play six of its 13 regular-season games during the upcoming 2010 season on television, including five national television appearances, and meet seven teams which competed in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The schedule was announced Monday by Tar Heel head coach Joe Breschi, now in his second year at the helm of his alma mater.

UNC will meet Duke on March 10, Maryland on March 27, Johns Hopkins on April 3 and Virginia on April 10 on ESPNU. The game against Virginia will be part of the Konica Minolta Big City Classic and will be part of a tripleheader of lacrosse games that will comprise the first-ever athletic event at the New Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, N.J. that day.

Carolina will also meet Navy on February 25 in a game to be televised nationally by CBS College Sports. The Tar Heels will meet UMBC on March 6 in the WMAR-TV (Baltimore Channel 2) Game of the Week. UNC could also appear on TV a seventh time if it advances to the championship game of the 2010 ACC Tournament at College Park, Md. on April 25. The title game of the event will be broadcast live by FSN South.

In its 13 regular-season games, the Tar Heels will meet seven teams that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament with only two of those seven games at home. UNC plays at Navy February 25, at UMBC March 6, at Duke March 10, home against Princeton March 16, home against Maryland March 27, at Johns Hopkins April 3 and against Virginia at the Meadowlands April 10.

UNC will open its season playing in the inaugural varsity game for Jacksonville's lacrosse program. The Dolphins will open their lacrosse history against the Tar Heels in Jacksonville, Fla. on February 6 at 2:30 p.m.

UNC will play its first two home games against Bryant University, coached by former Duke head mentor Mike Pressler, February 13 at Fetzer Field at Noon and against Lehigh February 20 at Fetzer, also at Noon.

After successive road games at Navy, UMBC and Duke, UNC will play two teams from the Ivy League three days apart to begin a three-game home stand. Carolina meets 2009 NCAA quarterfinalist Princeton March 16 at 7 p.m. and then meet Dartmouth the following Friday, March 19, also at 7 p.m. Carolina will conclude the home stand March 27 against Maryland at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.

The Tar Heels will spend the entire month of April on the road. UNC plays at 2009 NCAA quarterfinalist Johns Hopkins on April 3, versus Virginia on April 10 in New Jersey, at Robert Morris in Pittsburgh April 17 and in the ACC Tournament at the University of Maryland April 23 and 25.

After a two-week break for final exams, Carolina will close out its 2010 campaign with a home game against Ohio State May 8 at 12 Noon. It will be the Buckeyes' first appearance in Chapel Hill since a quarterfinal game in the NCAA Tournament in 2004. Breschi piloted the OSU program for 11 seasons from 1997-2008. This will be the eighth regular-season meetings between the two teams in the past nine seasons.
