Carolina Hosts Maryland On National TV Saturday

March 21, 2008

  • UNC Lacrosse Game Notes
  • CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The fourth-ranked University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will play host to the ninth-ranked University of Maryland Saturday at 6 p.m. at Fetzer Field in a match that will be nationally televised live on ESPNU.

The gates to Fetzer Field will open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and $1 for children. University of North Carolina faculty, staff and students will all be admitted free of charge with their UNC One Cards.

The ESPNU telecast will mark the first time in history that a Carolina men's lacrosse game at Fetzer Field will be televised live nationally. The Tar Heels have been on national TV telecasts in neutral site and away settings previously their history but Saturday will mark a first.

The game is part of a doubleheader as the UNC women's team will play host to Duke Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field.

Special issue 2008 Carolina men's lacrosse T-shirts will be given to the first 500 fans in the gate on Saturday evening as a special promotion.

UNC is 6-1 on the season, with its only loss to No. 1 Duke. Maryland is 5-2 with losses to Duke and UMBC.

Coach John Haus' Tar Heel team will look to end a losing string against the Terrapins that dates back to the 2003 season when Carolina won 10-6 at College Park, Md. In fact, the Terrapins have won 12 of the last 13 meetings between the two teams dating to the 1997 season. The last win by the Tar Heels at Fetzer Field against Maryland came in 1996, a wild 17-16 game in which midfielder Jason Wade scored eight goals on eight shots, a school record for goals and shooting accuracy in a game.
