Carolina's Men's Golf Team Inks Top Recruit

Nov. 22, 2002

Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina men's golf coach John Inman announces the signing of one of the nation's top players, Will Dottley, of Madison, Miss.

"We couldn't be happier about having Will join us next year," says Inman. "Will has really blossomed into one of the country's best junior golfers and his positive attitude go hand in hand with his rise in success."

Dottley is currently ranked fourth in the 2003 class by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings and is ranked fifth when compared to juniors from all grades. In the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, Dottley is ranked 11th.

In addition to his success on the golf course, Dottley, a senior at Madison Ridgeland Academy, is a member of the National Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta (both academic organizations) and also participates on the basketball and soccer teams. Prior to his senior year Dottley attended Washington Academy in Greenville, Miss., where he was an all-state soccer player and a member of the National Honor Society.

Dottley has been a high school golf medalist since seventh grade and led his team to a state championship in 2002. He was the 4-A Mississippi State High School individual medalist and also grabbed the 2001 Mississippi State Junior crown. In amateur play, Dottley placed fifth in the 2002 Mississippi State Amateur.

Dottley was a member of the 2002 AJGA Canon Cup East Team amassing second-place finishes in the AJGA Avila Junior Classic, the AJGA Henry-Griffitts Rome Junior Classic and the FCWT Mission Inn Masters. He also won and set the tournament scoring record at the Bubba Conlee National Junior with scores of 65-70-64--199. Dottley also set tournament records at the 2002 Exxon-BFI Junior Tour Championship (64-67--131) and a single-day course record during his win at the 2000 Texas-Oklahoma Junior (77-69-65-69--280).

"Will is just the type of well-rounded student-athlete we're looking to attract and we think he'll fit in perfectly with our players," added Inman.
