North Carolina Men's Golf Makes NCAA Regionals

May 9, 2005 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NCAA announced on Wednesday that the North Carolina men's golf team will be heading to this year's NCAA East Regional in Nashville, Tenn. The event, hosted by the Southeastern Conference, will be played at the Golf Club of Tennessee. The par 71 course is designed by Tom Fazio, the same designer of UNC's Finley Golf Course, and features 5,916-yard layout with fast greens, rolling terrain, and tree-lined fairways. This year's regional bid will mark the team's 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals. The Tar Heels finished 10th in last year's East Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships in Hot Springs, Va., where they finished 29th overall. Carolina enters this year's regional as the 15th seed and will be joined in the field by six other ACC schools. The other ACC teams include second-seeded Georgia Tech, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia, and Maryland. North Carolina head coach John Inman will take five Tar Heels to this year's Regional. The lineup will consist of senior Doug Kingston, juniors Ted Smith, Kevin Silva and Jonathan Jackson, and sophomore Martin Ureta.
Play at the NCAA East Regional will run from May 19-21. The top 10 teams from each of the three regions will then advance to this year's NCAA Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland on June 1-4.
