Men's Golf Tied At 11th After First Round

1st Round Results

JONESBOROUGH, TENN. - The first round of the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges tournament is over, and the University of North Carolina men's golf team finished the day in tied with the University of Tennessee at 10th place with a score of 299. East Tennessee State is in the lead at even par.

Senior Robert Riesen, of Pinehurst, N.C., carded a one-over par to finish the first round tied for 20th. Kevin O'Connell, the sophomore out of Cary, N.C., tied for 31st with two over 74. Freshman Jack Fields, of Southern Pines, N.C., and Chapel Hill native David Holzworth, a junior, both shot four over par and to tie at 44th. Philip Chauncey, a sophomore from Durham, N.C., finished the day tied for 52nd with a score of five-over par.

Matt Hill of North Carolina State grabbed first with a two-under 70. Eight are tied for second with one under: Darren Blair and Brad Revell both of North Carolina State, Zack Byrd of Coastal Carolina, Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State, Adam Hofmann of Vanderbilt University, Cole Moreland of Auburn University, Stefan Strandlund of the University of Mississippi, and Zach Sucher of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The tournament continues play through Sunday. The Ridges Golf and Country Club features a par-72, 7,147-yard course for this intercollegiate match.
