Carolina Golfers Finish 18th At Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, GA. -

The University of North Carolina men's golf team finished in 18th place with a 900 total at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Tar Heels carded a 309 in the final round after earlier rounds of 300-291. Tennessee-Chattanooga captured the team title with a two-over-par 864 total with rounds of 291-283-290.

For the Tar Heels, sophomore Philip Chauncey, from Durham, N.C., carded a six-over 222 total and tied for 40th place after posting rounds of 75-69-78. Senior Robert Riesen and freshman Jack Fields both fired 226 totals to tie for 62nd place. Riesen, from Pinehurst, N.C., carded rounds of 75-74-77 while Fields, from Southern Pines, N.C., shot 74-74-78. Henry Zaytoun III, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., tied for 78th place with a 231 total after posting rounds of 76-75-80 while Ryan Holler, a senior from Morehead City, N.C., carded a 239 total to finish in 89th place after rounds of 89-74-76.

Kyle Stanley of Clemson captured the individual title with an eight-under 208 total after firing rounds of 73-66-69. That was five strokes ahead of Jonathan Hodge, from Tennessee-Chattanooga, and Allen Koon, from South Carolina, who both carded 213 totals and tied for runner-up honors. A trio of players tied for fourth place at two-under 214 - Florida's Billy Horschel, Tennessee-Chattanooga's Stephan Jaegen and Tennessee's Chris Paisley.

 

 

In the team race, Tennessee finished five strokes behind champion Tennessee-Chattanooga with an 869 total after firing a one-under 287 in the final round. South Carolina finished in third place with an 870 total while Clemson finished fourth at 872, Florida finished fifth at 873 and Alabama finished sixth at 875.

The 54-hole event was played at The Farm Golf Club which features a par 72, 7,012-yard layout. The Tar Heels return to action Oct. 13-14 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
