Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- North Carolina's men's golf team finished with a team score of 873 and a sixth place finish upon the conclusion of this year's Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Golf Championship. Georgia Tech took home the ACC crown with a 19-under team total of 845. The Yellow Jackets finished eight shots ahead of second place Clemson and nine ahead of third place Wake Forest. In individual play, Clemson's John Engler won the tournament with a 13-under-par 203. Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech took home second place with an 11-under 205, while Virginia's Cameron Yancey rounded out the top three with a 5-under score of 211. For the Tar Heels, Johno Harris and Ramon Bescansa finished tied for 18th place with 3-over-par scores of 219. One stroke back was Dustin Bray whose 4-over finish was good for a tie for 22nd. Rob Simmons and Jeremy Elliot finished out the Tar Heels' individual performances. Simmons' 6-over 222 was good for a tie for 31st while Elliot's score of 8-over 224 placed him in a tie for 35th. Tournament play was held at Disney's Magnolia Course, which features a par 72, 7093 layout. The tournament also was the men's golf meeting to determine Carlyle Cup points. Because the Heels finished sixth and the Devils seventh, Carolina earned three points towards its Carlyle Cup total. With the points, the Tar Heels still trail the Devils 26-21. Key points earned by Duke in baseball and women's golf enabled the Devils to lock up victory in the first Carlye Cup competition.
