North Carolina Men's Golf Takes Eighth Place at ACC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.C. - The North Carolina men's golf team moved up one place in the final round of this year's ACC Championship. The Tar Heels finished in eighth place with a tournament total of 906. The team improved its score in each round, but could not recover from a first round score of 314 that put them in last place to start the tournament. Carolina junior Ted Smith shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round to move up three positions in the individual race. He finished in a three-way tie for 13th with Song Jeon of Florida State and Webb Simpson of Wake Forest. North Carolina sophomore Martin Ureta also played well for the Tar Heels. Ureta posted an even par 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 24th place. Duke captured both the team and individual honors at this year's ACC Championship. The Blue Devils carded a tournament total of 865 to beat out runner-up Georgia Tech by four strokes. Duke golfer Ryan Blaum fired the tournament's lowest score in a round with a 67 on the final day to claim the individual title. Chan Song of Georgia Tech finished eight strokes behind Blaum in second place with a tournament total of 214. Duke will receive one point in the Carlyle Cup for finishing higher than North Carolina at this year's ACC Men's Golf Championship.
