Men's Golf In Tenth After First Round Of ACC Championship

Day One Results

NEW LONDON, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in tenth place after one round of play in this year's ACC Championship. The team combined for a 314 score and currently trails ninth-place Virginia Tech by six strokes. Duke, led by Ryan Blaum's 68, is ahead of the field with a 292, and one stroke off the pace is Georgia Tech. Florida State is in third at nine over par, and NC State and Virginia are each in fourth two strokes behind the Seminoles.

Representing Duke atop the individual leaderboard is Ryan Blaum at four under. Following Blaum is Virginia's Brad Tilley at 2 under. Georgia Tech's Robert Castro, Maryland's Tully Coyle, and Clemson's Jack Ferguson each shot a 71 on the first day and are tied for third.

Tar Heels Jonathan Jackson and Ted Smith both fired a 77 for Carolina on day one. Martin Ureta shot a 78.

Play resumes tomorrow at the Old North State Club, this year's venue for the ACC Championship. The par 72 black course features 7,102 yards of play. The all important Carlyle Cup point will be rewarded to Duke or Carolina depending on who posts the higher finish for the championship.
