Tar Heels Finish Play at Administaff Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team finished play at the Administaff August State Invitational in 17th place. Host school Augusta State took the tournament with an impressive 36-under par 828. Sophomore Kevin O'Connell shot three-over par on the day to finish the tournament tied for 31st. The Cary, N.C., native ended with a total two-under 214 for the tournament. Sophomore Henry Zaytoun III, of Raleigh, N.C., went even in the final round to finish tied for 47th. Freshman Jack Fields struggled after shooting two-under on Saturday. Fields, from Southern Pines, N.C., finished at a tie for 78th with a total 225. Fields' fellow freshmen Patrick Barrett and Matt Raudenbush were a part of the starting five for the first time this spring. Barrett, of Pinehurst, N.C., finished 90th with a 231 while Raudenbush, of Pine Valley, N.J., finished 93rd with a 234. Taylor Floyd of Augusta State took the individual win by shooting a five-under par on the final day of play, pulling him far ahead of the pack at 14-under 202 total. Derek Rende of Tennessee-Chattanooga finished in second place four shots behind Floyd at 206. There was a five-way tie for third at eight-under par: Blayne Barber of UCF, Roberto Diaz of South Carolina-Aiken, Allen John of Georgia State, Janne Kaske of Augusta State, and Robin Wingardh of Tennessee. Augusta State carded 11-under as a team for the final round of play to take first place. In second was Tennessee-Chattanooga with a 23-under 841 total, followed by Kent State in third place with an 843. The tournament was played at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., which features a par-72, 6,942-yard course. Carolina returns to action next weekend, April 10-11th, in Wallace, N.C., for the River Landing Intercollegiate.
