O'Connell Leads Tar Heels At Administaff

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The North Carolina men's golf team sits at the bottom of the 17-team field at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational following the first two rounds, both played on Saturday. The Tar Heels shot a nine-over team 297 in the first round, but lowered that to a one-under 287 in the second for a 584 on the day, playing at Forest Hills Golf Club, a par-72, 7,161-yard layout. Tar Heel sophomore Kevin O'Connell is tied for 12th overall and is the only UNC player in the top 60. O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., carded a 70 in the first round and a six-birdie 69 in the second to put himself at 139 heading into the final round on Sunday. South Carolina-Aiken's Roberto Diaz leads the field with an 11-under 133. UNC sophomore Henry Zaytoun III sits in a tie for 62nd at 146 (76-70), and freshman Jack Fields is tied for 69th at 147 (77-70). Freshman Patrick Barrett is tied for 90th at 153 (75-78) and freshman Matt Raudenbush is tied for 92nd at 155 (76-79). Host Augusta State leads the field at 551, 25 under par. Rounding out the top five are Central Florida (557), Tennessee-Chattanooga (559), Kent State (561) and Coastal Carolina (562), with Duke in sixth at 564.
The tournament continues on Sunday with the final round of the 54-hole event.
