Carolina Men's Golf Finishes 13th At The Hootie At Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. - The North Carolina men's golf team was unable to stage a comeback in the final two rounds the 2005 Hootie at Bulls Bay. Due to rain delays the teams in this year's field completed both the second and third rounds on Tuesday. The Tar Heels dropped to 13th place in the final team standings, marking their lowest finish of the spring season. The University of Kentucky finished first among all teams after a close race against runner-up Augusta. The teams finished 54 holes all-tied-up. Kentucky won the first playoff hole to clinch the victory. Augusta's Scott Jamieson claimed the individual title with a tournament total of 205 and was followed by Wake Forest freshman Webb Simpson who finished with a score of 210. The Tar Heels finished the last two rounds with team scores of 307 and 296 to post a tournament total of 903. Junior Ted Smith, from Westlake, Ohio, led all Tar Heels with a tournament total of 225. Senior Doug Kingston finished only one stroke behind Smith in a tie for 45th with a total score of 226. The North Carolina Men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when they travel to Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia for the Augusta State Invitational.
