UNC Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational

STATESBORO, GA. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team finished 10th in the Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a 885 total. The Tar Heels fired a one-under-par 297 in the final round. The University of Alabama carded a four-under-par 284 to capture the team championship with a total of 849.

North Carolina freshman Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., led the Tar Heels with a 214 total, moving up to tie for 9th with Tyler Brown of Florida and Michael O'Neal of North Florida. Freshman Henry Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., carded a 77 in the final round for a 222 total to tie for 44th place. Senior Barden Berry, from Kinston, N.C., fired a 74 in the final round to tie for 70th place with a 228 total. Reed Darsie, a senior from Chapel Hill, carded a 78 for a 229 total and tied for 72nd place.

George Bryan IV of South Carolina fired a three-under-par 69 in the final round, gaining the individual title with an eight-under-par 208 total. Bryan finished one stroke ahead of Michael Thompson of Alabama who carded a three-under-par 69 in the final round for a total of 209. George Southern's Logan Blondell finished in third place with a 210. Matthew Swan of Alabama and Billy Horschel of Florida tied for fourth with a 211.

Florida finished second in the team race with an 856 after firing a 287 in the final round. South Carolina shot a 292 to finish third with a total of 859. Tennessee took fourth place with an 865 and Georgia Southern tied with Alabama-Birmingham for fifth place with an 870 total.

 

 

The 54-hole event was played at Forest Heights Country Club, a par 72, 6,962-yard layout. The Tar Heels will return to action this Friday through Sunday for the Administaff Augusta State Invitational in Evans, Ga.
