Men's Golf Moves To Fourth In Final Round of Seminole Intercollegiate

March 8, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team played their best the whole tournament on the final round of the 36th annual Seminole Intercollegiate with a team score of 290. The 2-over par round pulled them ahead of Virginia, Texas A&M, and host Florida State as they claimed fourth place in this year's championship. Maintaing the lead throughout, Coastal Carolina took home first place honors finishing 12 strokes ahead of second place Vanderbilt. Rounding out the top five, Central Florida finished third, and the Virginia Cavaliers were fifth.

Carolina's Martin Ureta fired a one-over par 73 on the final day, yet still found himself in third place when it was all said and done. He shared third with Lindsay Reynolds of champion Coastal Carolina. Ureta was two-under for the tournament. Like Coastal Carolina held the lead throughout, so did Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State as he finished with a 71 and a nine-under par total. Moises Cobo, another Coastal Carolina team member, finished in second at three-under.

Tar Heel Matt Crenshaw moved up four place on the final day and finished only one stroke behind fellow Heel Ureta. Crenshaw took home fifth place honors.

The Tar Heels return to action March 19th as they take part in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia. The tournament will be played at the Forest Heights Country Club.
