Goddard Named Associated Press All-America

Dec. 16, 2008

Chapel Hill, N.C. ------ University of North Carolina safety Trimane Goddard has been named to the 2008 Associated Press All-America second team. Goddard is the first Tar Heel to earn AP All-America honors since Julius Peppers and Ryan Sims did so in 2001.

Goddard is tied for the national lead with seven interceptions. He also has 48 tackles, 1.5 tackles for losses, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Twice he intercepted a pass on an opponent's final drive to seal a win (Miami & Duke), and against Notre Dame his fumble recovery clinched Carolina's victory. For his on-field efforts, he was named to the All-ACC first team and a Thorpe Award semifinalist. Goddard's seven interceptions equals the third-best single-season effort by a Tar Heel.
