Nov. 11, 2000

"First of all, let me congratulate Coach Vanderlinden. I do think they have a very good football team. He's done a very good job with that program. There's no question they're on the verge of getting everything turned around, as evidenced by today and as evidenced by last year.

"Lamont Jordan is a big-time runner. If he stays healthy, he'll be an NFL running back.

"We felt like if we could get them in a pure passing situation we could put some pressure on their quarterback. I think Shaun Hill is a good player. I'm not sure if he's hurt or not. But both of their quarterbacks are good players. They have some good skill people.

"I felt like our defense rose to the challenge. When you look out there and see the number of big plays they made, you'd think we must of given up 400 yards of offense. But, they had only 300 yards of offense, and I bet half of that was on three or four plays.

"Defensively, I feel like overall we played well. We made some really key plays, especially in the red zone and inside the five. They were plays we had to make or we don't win the ball game. So, I can't say enough about our defense.

"I think half of Lamont Jordan's carries were two yards or less. Anytime you can accomplish that it means you're going to feel pretty good about what you did on defense.

"Defensively, it could have been very easy to get frustrated because we had a lot of key stops, but then we had to go right back on the field because we were not able to move the ball with very much consistency. But for two weeks in a row midway through the fourth quarter we made the plays on the drives when we had to make them to win the ball game.

"After losing four in a row we've come back to win these last two, and I'm really proud of this team for bouncing back from a lot of adversity.

"Willie Parker had our first 100-yard game in a long, long time. He showed some great skill today with his speed and quickness. He's getting better weekly. I'm still exited about Brandon Russell and Andre Williams.

"The passing game was inconsistent. We've got to do a better job of throwing and catching.

"I thought our special teams play improved today. We punted pretty well, our punt return game was good.

"Jeff Reed, if there's one better in the ACC, I haven't seen him. He's only had one kickoff in the past two weeks that hasn't gone into the end zone. He's kicked some pressure-packed field goals the past two weeks that gave us the chance to win.

"I thought we played well enough in all three phases to win the game, but it wasn't a pretty win.

"I thought our crowd was into it, they responded really well. I'm glad our team gave the fans something to go home happy about.

"It was a great way to end our home season."
