Former Tar Heel and current Pittsburgh Steeler Willie Parker was at the game. Parker is averaging 5.1 yards a carry with the Steelers this season.
Parker was joined by former Tar Heel and current teammate Jeff Reed and a friend. Reed has made six of seven field goal attempts this season.
Coach Connors was delighted to see Parker. The 2-1 Steelers have the weekend off.
The Tar Heels head out for the 1:35 p.m. kickoff against Utah. Utah beat the Heels 46-16 last year at Utah.
Cedrick Holt (13) and Wallace Wright (29) watch the coin hit the ground. The game was just the second alltime against Utah.
The Utes won the toss and deferred their selection to the second half. The Tar Heels defended the East end zone.
Brandon Tate (87) took the opening kickoff at the NC4...
...and raced 96-yards for a TD to give the Heels a quick 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the contest.
Tate's (87) kickoff return was just his second as a Tar Heel. Tate has been returning punts since the first game.
Ronnie McGill (25) got a kick out of Tate's (87) return.
Brandon Tate (87) would go on to return three kickoffs for a total of 149 yards. Tate also returned one punt for three yards.
Mike Liti (20) is stopped by Brian Rackley (42) and Larry Edwards (32) for a 4-yard gain to the NC 35 on Utah's first play from scrimmage.
David Wooldridge (45) punts out of his own end zone to end Carolina's second possession. Wooldridge punted five times for a 39.8 yard average.
Tommy Richardson (8) tackles Brian Johnson (3) for a 1-yard gain to the NC43.
Tommy Richardson (8) chases down Brian Johnson (3) for no gain on a 3rd-and-ten from the NC44 to end the Ute's possession.
