DALLAS - Julius Peppers, a junior defensive end from North Carolina, was named the FWAA-Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by a panel of FWAA members.

The FWAA (Football Writers Association of America) will pick a Defensive Player of the Week each Monday during the rest of the regular season. Peppers was already on the Watch List for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy which will be presented on Dec. 10 in Charlotte, N.C., by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

Peppers equaled his career high with 10 tackles, including four for loss and one sack as the Tar Heels trounced No. 6 Florida State, 41-9. Peppers added one interception for 13 return yards. He paced the Tar Heel defense which yielded just 224 yards to the Seminole offense. In the second half, Peppers and the North Carolina defense gave up just 34 yards. It was just the fifth time in the last 235 games that Florida State had been held under 10 points.

Defensive back James King, a redshirt freshman from Central Michigan, won the first weekly award this season.
