Davis Names Captains For Saturday's Game

Aug. 28, 2007

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- University of North Carolina head coach Butch Davis named game captains for Saturday's contest against James Madison following practice on Tuesday. On offense, he selected center Scott Lenahan and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. The defense will be represented by end Hilee Taylor and safety Trimane Goddard. On special teams, kicker Connor Barth and defensive end Garrett White will represent the team.

The honor means more than just going to the middle of the field for the coin toss.

"In my opinion, it's an honor," said Davis following Tuesday's practice. "It's a reflection of the coaching staff's trust and faith that you've worked hard and you are also somewhat of a role model."

Davis said he would have different game captains for the first four games and then the team would vote on permanent captains.

"I think it's a great way to reward some guys, for at least this first game, for the way they've conducted themselves through training camp."
