Lewis, Seawright Sign NFL Contracts

May. 2, 2005

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- Two more North Carolina football players have signed contracts with NFL teams. Tailback Jacque Lewis and defensive tackle Jonas Seawright inked deals with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants, respectively.

Lewis signed a tryout contract with Tampa Bay last Friday and participated in the team's mini-camp over the weekend. Seawright signed a free agent deal following the NFL Draft with the New York Giants and will participate in their mini-camp this weekend.

A total of eight Tar Heels from last season's Continental Tire Bowl team have now been drafted or signed with an NFL team. Center Jason Brown (4th round, Baltimore), safety Gerald Sensabaugh (5th, Jacksonville) and fullback Madison Hedgecock (7th, St. Louis) were selected in the draft, while deep snapper Greg Warren (Pittsburgh), tailback Chad Scott (Cleveland) and quarterback Darian Durant (Baltimore) signed as free agents.

Lewis finished second on the team in 2004 with 557 rushing yards on 74 carries (7.5 avg.) and scored three touchdowns. A native of Elizabeth City, N.C., he was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week for his performance in Carolina's 34-13 win over Georgia Tech, rushing for a career-best 161 yards and two touchdowns.

A native of Orangeburg, S.C., Seawright started every game at defensive tackle last year. He registered 29 tackles, including 13 primary and 16 assists.
