Spring Showcase Set For Saturday, April 5

March 7, 2008

Spring football season is underway in Chapel Hill and plans are in place for North Carolina's Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 5 at Kenan Stadium. The Showcase is an assortment of activities and games for fans of all ages beginning at 10 a.m. and culminating in the Tar Heels' annual spring scrimmage at 1 p.m.

Like last year, the Tar Heels' workouts will combine elements of a practice and a game and will last approximately 90 minutes.

The Carolina Fans Zone will be set up on the Kenan Stadium field and will be open from 10-11:45 a.m. This year's Fans Zone features more games, inflatables and slides than ever before. North Carolina's current players will mingle with the crowd throughout the Fans Zone area. Former Tar Heel standouts and NFL players, including Dre' Bly, Buddy Curry and Natrone Means, will be on hand for autographs.

A Youth Clinic, operated by Buddy Curry's Kids & Pros organization, will be set up within the Fans Zone. Buddy Curry was an all-conference linebacker at North Carolina in the late 1970s and played professionally with the Atlanta Falcons for eight seasons.

UNC head coach Butch Davis will address the stadium crowd at approximately 12:55 p.m. and football practice will begin immediately after.

Following the game, all kids 12-and-under will be invited to the field to run wind sprints with the team.

Public parking for the Spring Showcase is available at the Rams Head Parking Deck (for a $5 fee), Craige Deck (free) and the Bowles Lot (free). Kenan Stadium Gates 2, 5, 6 and 8 will be open to the public beginning at 10 a.m. Spectator seating will be available on the lower level of the home (south) side only. The Rams Club also will host its annual barbeque prior to practice. Contact The Rams Club for more information.

Several other Carolina athletic events are taking place in Chapel Hill that day, including men's lacrosse vs. Virginia at 4 p.m. and women's tennis vs. Wake Forest at 1 p.m. The baseball team will host Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. in Cary.
