Brannon Simpson returned to North Carolina as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2004. He previously worked as a graduate assistant strength coach at Carolina. Simpson originally came to Carolina after working with head strength coach Jeff Connors at East Carolina in 2000.

A native of Eastman, Ga., Simpson was the head strength coach and defensive line coach at Middle Georgia Junior College from 1998-2000.

Simpson's certifications and memberships include, Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (CSCCA), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and USA Weightlifting Club Coach Certified (USAW).

Simpson played nose guard at Carson-Newman where he graduated in 1997.
