2007 - Senior Season
Started all 12 games in 2008 and had 27 career starts • Led the team with 132 tackles • Ranked second in the ACC and 10th in the nation with 11.0 tackles per game • Finished the season with 132 tackles, seven tackles for losses, three sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery • Posted 12 tackles, including eight primary stops, in the win over Duke • Led Carolina with eight tackles, including a 12-yard sack, at Georgia Tech • Also had a 4-yard fumble recovery vs. the Yellow Jackets • Had a career-high 23 tackles and a sack at NC State • It was the first time a Tar Heel had registered 20 or more tackles since 2002 • Had seven tackles, including four solo stops, in the win over Maryland • Posted six tackles at Wake Forest • Had a game-high 14 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, forced a fumble and broke up a pass in the loss to No. 7 South Carolina • Was named ACC Player of the Week for his effort against the Gamecocks • Led the team with eight tackles in the win over Miami, including seven solo stops • Recorded his first career interception against the Canes • Posted four tackles at Virginia Tech • Had his third-straight double-digit tackle effort with 11 at No. 23 South Florida • Also had one tackle for loss against the Bulls • Recorded 12 tackles, including 10 solo stops and two assists, in the loss vs. Virginia • Also had his first sack of the season for 10 yards and posted 1.5 tackles for losses of 12 yards • Posted a career-high 18 tackles, including four solo stops and 14 assists, in the loss at East Carolina • Was named ACC Player of the Week for his effort against the Pirates • Led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops and one assist, in a 37-14 victory over James Madison.
2006 - Junior Season
Played in all 12 games and started nine at outside linebacker • Led the team
with 87 tackles, including 54 solo stops and 33 assists • Posted a team-high
10 tackles in a 45-44 victory at Duke • Made seven tackles, all solo, in the
win over NC State • Registered 10 tackles, including nine primary stops,
against Georgia Tech • Had a career-high 14 tackles, including 11 primary
stops and three assists, in the loss at Notre Dame • Also had a 2-yard
tackle for loss against the Irish • Had four tackles, including three
primary stops, against Wake Forest • Had seven tackles, including three solo
stops and four assists, against Virginia • Posted 10 tackles, including
seven solo stops and a 2-yard tackles for loss, against USF • Had five
tackles, including a 3-yard tackle for loss, and broke up a pass at Miami •
Posted five tackles, including three solo stops, at Clemson • Tied for
team-high honors with 10 tackles, five primary and five assists, against
Furman • Started against Virginia Tech and had three tackles, one tackle for
losses of two yards and one quarterback hurry • Was limited in practice this
fall and did not start against Rutgers due to a knee sprain • Had two
tackles against the Scarlet Knights.
2005 - Sophomore Season
Played in all 11 games and started the final six at middle linebacker •
Entered the starting lineup for the first time in the win over Virginia on
Oct. 22 • Had six tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble at
Virginia Tech • Posted a team-high 11 tackles, including a five-yard sack,
and forced a fumble against Duke • Registered 10 tackles, including four
primary and six assists, against Maryland • Had five tackles and a
quarterback pressure in the win over Boston College • Posted four tackles
against Miami • Made his first career start against Virginia and had six
tackles and assisted on a tackle for loss • Assisted on one tackle against
Utah • Had three tackles against Wisconsin.
2004 - Freshman Season
Played in 10 games primarily on special teams • Had six tackles, including
four solo stops • Had one tackle against Boston College in the Continental
Tire Bowl • Posted three tackles against Virginia Tech.
Cummings High School
Three-year starter in football • Earned all-conference and all-region honors
as a junior and senior at linebacker • Also played wide receiver and tight
end • Named MVP of the state championship game, leading Cummings to the
state title as a junior • Made 98 solo tackles as a senior • Played
basketball for four years.
