Carolina Kids Classic Boasts Record Total
June 23, 2008
Even before the first ball was struck last Thursday at the 20th edition of the Carolina Kids Classic at UNC Finley, the event had already raised a record total of $216,000 for the Chapel Hill Ronald McDonald House, the UNC Children's Hospital, and the Childhood Trust. A full field of 33 foursomes (132 golfers)--including Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge, Roy Williams and Butch Davis--took part on a perfect summer Chapel Hill day. A new addition this year was the inclusion of a four-item live auction of very high end UNC sports-related items, including a trip to the Maui Invitational and an exclusive UNC-Notre Dame football weekend, helped boost the year's total to $234,600. In twenty years, the Carolina Kids Classic has now raised $2.7 million overall. For the second straight year, the foursome representing Carolina Catering was the winner on the golf course. In the modified two-ball low net format, Jay Faircloth, Joe Curtis, Derek Lochbaum and Jim Ludwiczak posted the low round of the day at 110, 34-under-par.
