NBA Update: Week 22
April 4, 2006 During week 22, former Tar Heel Vince Carter scored more than 40 points in a game for the third time this season, posting 43 against the Miami Heat. Carter has helped the Nets to a league-leading 12-game winning-streak. Rasheed Wallace also had a productive week, recording three double-doubles. He now has 12 double-doubles on the season. Six former Tar Heels started in every game for their respective teams in week 22, marking a season-high. Three former Carolina basketball players - Sean May, Jeff McInnis, and Brendan Haywood - had to sit the week out due to injury. Update on Former Tar Heels in the NBA During Week 22: Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets - Started at guard in all three games. He scored 43 points, handed out six assists, and had two steals in the Nets' 90-78 victory over the Miami Heat. He also led his team with nine rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks. The Nets will look to continue their league-leading winning streak when they return to action tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. Raymond Felton, Charlotte Bobcats - Started at guard in all three games. He recorded two double-doubles on the week, with 15 points and 10 assists against the Chicago Bulls and 28 points and 10 assists against the Atlanta Hawks. Felton now ranks second among all rookies in assists per game. The Bobcats return to action tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Brendan Haywood, Washington Wizards - Missed all three games in week 22 due to lower back spasms. He is expected to return to the lineup tonight against the New York Knicks. Antawn Jamison, Washington Wizards - Started at forward in all three games. He scored a team-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds against the Houston Rockets. Jamison ranks in the top ten in the NBA in points per game, rebounds per game, minutes played, and double-doubles. The Wizards return to action tonight against the New York Knicks Sean May, Charlotte Bobcats - Missed week 22 due to knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on January 19. The Bobcats return to action tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rashad McCants, Minnesota Timberwolves - Started at guard in all three games. He grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and scored 16 points in the Timberwolves' 106-104 victory over the Golden State Warriors. McCants also had 10 points and handed out four assists against the Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves return to action tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats. Jeff McInnis, New Jersey Nets - Missed week 22 due to knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on January 19 to remove torn cartilage. McInnis suffered the injury in the Nets' game against the Dallas Mavericks on January 14. The Nets return to action tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. Jerry Stackhouse, Dallas Mavericks - Started at guard in all three games. He scored 23 points, going 7-7 from the free-throw line, against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Stackhouse ranks eighth in the NBA in free-throw percentage, shooting .881 on the season. The Mavericks return to action tonight against the Sacramento Kings. Rasheed Wallace, Detroit Pistons - Started at forward in all four games. He recorded three double-doubles on the week, with 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Phoenix Suns, 21 points and 10 rebounds against the Milwaukee Bucks, and 21 points and 10 rebounds against the Dallas Mavericks. The Pistons will look to continue a four-game win-streak when they face the Oklahoma City/New Orleans Hornets tonight.
Marvin Williams, Atlanta Hawks - Played forward in all four games. He scored 14 points against the Charlotte Bobcats. The Atlanta Hawks return to action tonight against the New Jersey Nets.
