Tuesday Talking Points

Jan. 16, 2007

By Adam Lucas

  • Carolina and Clemson have met just 10 times when both teams were ranked. The Tar Heels have won 9 of those meetings--the only loss came in a 1977 road defeat to the 19th-ranked Tigers (Carolina was ranked 4th at the time). That was also the only Carolina team in the last 30 years to lose at Clemson and make the Final Four in the same season.

  • In the last 20 years, the Tar Heels have lost 13 games as the nation's top-ranked team. They won the subsequent game on 12 of those 13 occasions (the only loss was a 1994 defeat at Clemson that followed a home loss to Georgia Tech).

  • The Tar Heels have lost three of their last four games when playing at Littlejohn Coliseum as a ranked team.

  • Marcus Ginyard became just the second Tar Heel to foul out of a game when he committed five fouls at Virginia Tech. The all-time low for fewest disqualifications for a Carolina team is 5, a mark held by the 1995 squad.

  • Carolina hasn't lost consecutive league road games since Feb. 10 and 24, 2004.
