No. 7 North Carolina Breezes By California All-Stars In Exhibition

No. 7 North Carolina 88, Calif. All-Stars 65

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Brendan Haywood had 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead North Carolina to an 88-65 exhibition victory over the California All-Stars on Tuesday night.

Joseph Forte scored 19 points for the Tar Heels, while Kris Lang added 12 on 6-for-9 shooting.

Drew Barry led the California All-Stars with 19, and Curtis Staples had 13.

North Carolina rallied from a 28-18 deficit early in the game, closing the first half with a 17-4 run to take the lead for good. Haywood's two free throws with 1.4 seconds left gave UNC a 39-37 lead at halftime.

The Tar Heels then opened the second half with another 17-4 run.

North Carolina made 38 of 70 shots (54 percent) and outrebounded the All-Stars 56-34.
