Tar Heel Take Down Yakima Sun Kings, 96-87

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Joseph Forte and Kris Lang each scored 22 points to lead North Carolina to a 96-87 exhibition victory over the CBA's Yakima Sun Kings on Monday night.

Lang added seven rebounds, and Forte shot 8-for-11 from the field and added nine assists and three steals as the Tar Heels beat the defending CBA champs. Brendan Haywood added eight points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

David Vanterpool had 25 points for the Sun Kings, who have lost two of their three games on their collegiate exhibition tour.

The Tar Heels led 45-29 at halftime, but Yakima cut the deficit to 60-52 with 12:53 remaining. Max Owens, who scored 16 points in just 17 minutes, hit back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the lead to 14 points with 11:53 to play.

North Carolina led 96-80 with 1:13 left before the Sun Kings closed with a 7-0 run.
