Tar Heel Quartet Honored By Collegiate Baseball

TUSCON, Ariz. - Preseason No. 2 North Carolina has placed four players on the Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball newspaper preseason All-America squad, which was released Tuesday. First baseman/outfielder Dustin Ackley and right-hander Alex White were first-team picks, while right-hander Adam Warren and infielder Kyle Seager were third-team selections. The Collegiate Baseball selections give the Tar Heels a total of five preseason All-America picks on their roster, including all three projected weekend starters. In addition to White and Warren, right-hander Matt Harvey was a third-team selection by the NCBWA. Ackley and White were also first-team selections by the NCBWA. Ackley hit .471 with a school-record 82 runs scored a year ago, while Seager batted .347 with a school-record 30 doubles with 75 RBI. White went 13-3 with a 2.83 ERA in 101 2/3 innings a year ago, while Warren was 9-2 with a 4.23 ERA in 83 innings. Warren is Carolina's career leader in winning percentage with a 22-2 mark over the past three seasons. The Tar Heels open preseason team practice in preparation for the 2009 season Feb. 1.
