Diamond Heels Set Fall World Series Schedule

Sept. 12, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The two-time national runner-up North Carolina baseball team once again will cap its fall season with the annual intra-squad Fall World Series, which is slated to open Oct. 9 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex at Cary's Thomas Brooks Park.

The Tar Heels began team practice Sept. 3 and will play a number of scrimmages before the Fall World Series opens next month. This five-game set will be the only chance for the public to get an early look at the 2008 Carolina baseball team and its home for this coming season. UNC will play all of its home games in Cary while Boshamer Stadium is being renovated for the 2009 campaign.

Admission to all Fall World Series games is free of charge.

Carolina returns seven position starters from last year's record-setting 57-win club, including national freshman of the year Dustin Ackley, all-conference catcher Tim Federowicz and seniors Chad Flack and Seth Williams. Returning right-handers Adam Warren and Alex White combined for 18 wins a year ago, and the Tar Heels have added another talented crop of freshman hurlers, including top-five round draft choices Matt Harvey and Nate Striz.
