Diamond Heels In The Pros Update

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Nineteen former Tar Heels have played in professional baseball in 2006, including three in the major leagues. A fourth should join that group in September when 2006 national player of the year Andrew Miller is expected to join the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers. He signed on Friday and will begin his pro career with the Class A Lakeland Tigers.

Here's a look at all 18 former Diamond Heels in the professional ranks this season. All stats as of Monday, August 7.

TAR HEELS IN THE MAJORS
Russ Adams, Toronto Blue Jays
Hitting .223 with three homers and 25 RBI in 66 games at shortstop ... Not on 25-man active roster ... Batting .354 in 24 games with the Triple A Syracuse Sky Chiefs.

Brian Roberts, Baltimore Orioles
Batting .295 with three homers and 39 RBI in 89 games at second base ... Leads team with 27 doubles and has scored 58 runs.

Kyle Snyder, Boston Red Sox
3-2 with a 5.93 ERA in seven games, including five starts ... Fanned 25 in 27.1 innings.

TAR HEELS IN THE MINORS
Garry Bakker, Chicago White Sox
Pitched in 36 games for the High A Winston-Salem Warthogs and is 1-1 with eight saves and a 4.69 ERA ... Struck out 39 in 40.1 innings.

Jeremy Cleveland, San Diego Padres
Hit .275 with 37 RBI in 80 games with the Lake Elsinore Storm (High A) ... Hitting .162 in 19 games since being promoted to the Double A Mobile BayBears.

Jay Cox, Colorado Rockies
Batting .289 with one homer, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored in 22 games for the Casper Rockies (Rookie).

Mike Daniel, Washington Nationals
Combined to hit .249 with seven home runs and 34 RBI in 105 games with the Savannah Sand Gnats and Vermont Lake Monsters.

Derrick DePriest, Kansas City Royals
Went 0-4 with a 7.01 ERA and one save in 24 games with the Double A Wichita Wranglers.

Tyrell Godwin, Washington Nationals
Hitting .238 with seven homers, 40 RBI and 13 steals in 105 games with the Triple A New Orleans Zephyrs.

Adam Greenberg, Los Angeles Dodgers
Batting .241 with a home run and 14 RBI in 49 games with the Double A Jacksonville Suns ... Also spent time in the Cubs organization at West Tenn and Iowa.

Jonathan Hovis, New York Yankees
3-1 with a 1.40 ERA in 14 games with the Class A Staten Island Yankees ... Fanned 13 and walked just six in 19.1 innings.

Marshall Hubbard, Seattle Mariners
In 39 games with the Double A San Antonio Missions, batting .272 with four homers and 20 RBI ... Hit .265 in High A Inland Empire before being promoted in June.

Chris Iannetta, Colorado Rockies
Hitting .368 with two homers and 13 RBI in 33 games since a June call-up to Triple A Colorado Springs ... Batted .321 with 11 home runs and 26 RBI in 44 games with Double A Tulsa.

Adam Kalkhof, Kansas City Royals
