Baseball America Names Federowicz Freshman All-America

June 30, 2006

DURHAM, N.C. - Just four days after earning a spot on the All-College World Series team, North Carolina catcher Tim Federowicz picked up first-team Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America, the publication announced Friday. The Apex, N.C., native batted .320 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI to help lead the Tar Heels to a school-record 54 wins and their runner-up finish at the CWS.

Federowicz, who was also recognized as a Freshman All-America by Collegiate Baseball, will spend his summer playing for either the U.S. National Team or the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League. He is currently in the midst of Team USA tryouts in New England.

Federowicz's 12 home runs were the third most by a UNC freshman. He was at his best during the posteason and earned sports on the Chapel Hill Regional All-Tournament Team and the All-CWS team.
