With nobody on and two outs in the second, Tim Federowicz (19) singles up the middle.

 Seth Williams (27) follows with a single through the right side.

 Matt Spencer (36), in his first CWS at bat, follows with a single to right...
...to send Federowicz (19) around third...

 ...and in to score for the first run of the game.

 John Wallace (35) is out at third to end a slick 9-4-5 double play to end the second inning.
Reid Fronk (7) doubles down the left field line with one out in the third.

 One out later, Chad Flack (34) singles to left to give Carolina a 2-0 lead.

 Jay Cox (10) then doubles to right center...
...to move Flack (34) over to third.

 Tim Federowicz (19) then rips a drive to deep...

 ...right field for a two-run double and a 4-0 lead.
Robert Woodard (20) throws in the bottom of the third. Woodard would give up four earned runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work.

 Mat Spencer (36) singles to right to lead off the fourth.

 Garrett Gore (4) follows with a sacrifice bunt to move Spencer (36) over to second.
