CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina catcher Chris Iannetta has been named a second-team freshman All-America by Baseball America.

A native of Providence, R.I., Iannetta started 47 games in his first season as a Tar Heel and led all UNC rookies with a .333 batting average. He also hit nine home runs and drove in 34 runs on a Carolina team that earned an NCAA Tournament bid and was 43-21 overall.

Iannetta finished the season strong, batting 5-for-9 (.556) with two runs in two ACC Tournament starts and had a pair of hits in the first two games of the NCAA Regional at Columbia, S.C., before he suffered a deep thigh bruise against South Carolina on June 1 and missed the final three games of the year.

Iannetta is one of five Tar Heels playing this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. Iannatta is a member of the Chatham A's.
