TEAM NOTES

  • Tuesday's loss to Fresno State snapped a six-game NCAA Tournament winning streak for the Tar Heels. Carolina was the last team to lose a game in this postseason and is 6-1 in the 2008 tourney.

  • Carolina's three runs scored marked its fewest since a 2-0 win over Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament, a span of seven games.

  • After playing three consecutive errorless games, UNC committed just its third error of the postseason Tuesday against Fresno State.

  • The Tar Heels also suffered a loss in their second CWS game in 2007 - 14-4 to Rice - but rallied to win three straight elimination games to reach the championship series for the second straight year.

  • Carolina dropped to 9-6 over its last three CWS appearances and 11-14 in seven trips to Omaha.

  • With the loss, Carolina fell to 71-51 all-time in NCAA play. Mike Fox is now 36-19 in nine trips to the postseason.

  • The Tar Heels dropped to 2-3 all-time against Fresno State. Mike Fox is 1-2 in three all-time games against the Bulldogs.

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • Tim Fedroff extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games and drove in his 11th run of the postseason with a third-inning RBI triple. He continued to move up several UNC single-season record lists and now has 70 RBI (ninth), five triples (tied for seventh) and 75 runs (tied for fifth). Fedroff leads the team with a .548 (17-31) postseason average.

  • Tim Fedroff went 2-for-5 and now has 110 hits on the season to move to third on the Tar Heels' single-season list. Dustin Ackley now has 107 hits to move into a tie for fourth.

  • Dustin Ackley extended his current hitting streak to 10 games with a fifth-inning single.

  • Kyle Seager's RBI double in the third was his 29th of the season, extending his school record. He also drove in his 75th run of the season to move into fourth on the single-season list. Seager also has 43 extra-base hits on the year to rank second in school history.

  • Kyle Shelton posted two hits for the second straight CWS game after recording just two hits over his first nine career CWS games. He is batting .500 (4-8) in Omaha.

  • Seth Williams hit safely for the eighth straight game and has recorded a hit in 29 of his 33 career NCAA Tournament games. He is batting .375 (45-120) in his postseason career and is hitting .345 (19-55) in 15 CWS games. Williams leads UNC with a .625 average (5-8) in this year's CWS.

  • Chad Flack went 2-for-4 and now has 19 base hits in 15 career CWS games. He also has 46 career NCAA Tournament hits in 34 games. Flack has two RBI in Omaha for 209 in his career, which is five shy of the UNC school record.

  • Right-hander Rob Wooten, who allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings, made his eighth CWS appearance in the Tar Heels' last nine games in Omaha. He also pitched in his 41st game in 2008, which ranks third all-time at Carolina.

  • Left-hander Brian Moran, who went two-thirds of an inning in relief Tuesday, made his 37th appearance to move into seventh place on UNC's single-season list.

  • Right-hander Adam Warren suffered just the second loss of his career after allowing four runs on nine hits over four-plus innings. He dropped to 22-2 in his career and 9-2 on the season with the loss.

  • Adam Warren picked off his seventh runner of the season, which leads all UNC pitchers, in the first inning. Catcher Tim Federowicz followed with his team-high ninth pickoff in the third for an inning-ending double play.

  • Veterans Tim Federowicz, Chad Flack and Seth Williams each started their 15th career game in Omaha Tuesday. They are the only Tar Heels to start each CWS game over the last three seasons
     

     

  •
